Saint Maximillian (?–12 October 288) [1] of Lorch was born in Celeia in the province of Noricum (now Celje, Slovenia), and in adulthood made a pilgrimage to Rome.[2] Pope Sixtus II sent him to Lorch, where he was beheaded by the Roman Prefect Numerian after refusing to abandon Christianity and sacrifice to the pagan gods. He is remembered on October 12 (and in some locations on October 29).
